More trail digging opportunities than you can poke a fire rake at! IMBAAu's Nick has offered to look after crews on Saturday 21 April from 9am (yep, that's tomorrow), and again on Wednesday 25 April from 10 am (ANZAC day - perfect opportunity to be a digger!) You can give Nick a call to confirm on 0429 369 003. I'll be leading a crew on Sunday 29 April from 9am. As always, meet at the Croft Rd triangle, bring water, boots, gloves, sunscreen, hat. Tools will be provided. And don't forget, as we're (ostensibly, at least) doing work for the Kona Dirty Weekend track, Bike SA have offered us a 25% discount on race entry for anyone that comes along to lend a hand. PM me for details. Come and build the trails you want to ride!

Working below the Outcrops

Written by
Having met at the Fox Creek gates for a morning of trail work, Bryce, Alistair, Cowan, Stu, Ian, and myself (and Harper) went out to see what elements of funness (aka TTFs) could be added along the Outcrops trail.  Unlike last month’s work on Mushroom Effect, we had no real need to manage improper water flows or the like; we were just out to make the most of the long, open descent; from the granite outcrops down to the steps.     We fairly quickly split into work units: Ian working on patching up an area coming out of the rocks that was in danger of becoming blown out; Alistair and Cowan working on a nice kicker near the top; Bryce putting in a neat drop a little further down from Al and Co’s kick; and Harper and I adding another kick below that.  Stu wandered off with secateurs and pruning saw in hand; we didn’t see him again ‘til he smelt the barbie…     Ian had the fairly technical job of creating a bench over rock that retained the narrow and difficult feel of the preceding trail through the granite outcropping.  Not only that, he had to merge…

Australian MTB Championships 2012

Written by
Adelaide is hosting the Specialized Australian Mountain Bike Championship in the last week of February. It promises to be a spectacular four days of competitive mountain biking from trials to cross country and the thrills of downhill and four cross. For an entry fee of $2 per person you will see some of the world's best.   Sam Hill is five-time World Champion and two-time World Cup Series Champion not only has the ability to win, but to deliver reality biting margins into his competitors' times. He elevates downhill racing to an all new level of competition. Sam's reserved demeanor, along with his ability to brutalize his competition against all odds means that it's very hard not to be in awe of this athlete Sam Hill... IS, Downhill Mountain Biking   Troy Brosnan blasted onto the 2010 World Cup scene like a ton of bricks and showed no signs of being a rookie. Troy took his bike down the hill faster than any other junior on the World Cup circuit and showed a majority of the Elite field how to get down a hill FAST! In doing so Troy managed to win the UCI Junior World Cup Championship in his…

Melrose Wilmington Rail Trail Ride, Sat Oct 15th

Written by
On Saturday 15 October, our friends in the Southern Flinders Rough Riders and at Over the Edge will be holding a ride along the Melrose Wilmington Rail Trail. The trail is a new bike trail tracking the old railway line between Melrose and Wilmington and is approximately 20km. It is a safe trail with most of the ride being off road. The terrain is flat to undulating along the picturesque trail through the bush. There will be a treasure hunt (lollies, chocolate ,icy poles) along the way to keep the kids motivated. A support vehicle will follow the route to give you and your bike a lift if you need one. Relax afterwards with a BBQ lunch in Paradise Square in down town Melrose and enjoy live music brought to you by our talented locals. All profits raised will go towards the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Put this date in your diary for the last weekend of the School holidays in October. For further information contact Southern Flinders Rough Riders at Over The Edge Sports on 08 8666 2222 or website www.otesports.com.au

Behind the Scenes - SAMBA August Update

Written by
We know you are all keen to know what is happening with SAMBA...What is SAMBA doing? Are they really helping me/the community/Mountain Biking?   Over the course of June and July...and a little August, SAMBA has progressed several items.   1) Meetings with Government Agencies and Ministers, Councils and other key stakeholders that hold the "key" to getting more places to ride and getting MTBers more rights in the community. 2) Grants, Grants and More Grants...We've been busy trying to tee-up some funds to help get trails onto the ground and help our existing trails stay in good order! 3) Ground work for a number of SAMBA programs.       - Community Awards and Movie Night (which we are confident will grow, with plans for another in the nearish future that will allow the community to show off their talent and be a kind of Local MTB/Banff Film Festival style Event) - The Fab 4 ( a revived Track and Trail Program) that will be a series of 4 socialish ride events at our favourite trail centres (Fox, Eagle, Prospect and an "Away" trip to Melrose) - A "Come and Try" program to get new riders on dirt -…
