Australian MTB Championships 2012
Adelaide is hosting the Specialized Australian Mountain Bike Championship in the last week of February. It promises to be a spectacular four days of competitive mountain biking from trials to cross country and the thrills of downhill and four cross. For an entry fee of $2 per person you will see some of the world's best.
Sam Hill is five-time World Champion and two-time World Cup Series Champion not only has the ability to win, but to deliver reality biting margins into his competitors' times. He elevates downhill racing to an all new level of competition. Sam's reserved demeanor, along with his ability to brutalize his competition against all odds means that it's very hard not to be in awe of this athlete Sam Hill... IS, Downhill Mountain Biking
Troy Brosnan blasted onto the 2010 World Cup scene like a ton of bricks and showed no signs of being a rookie. Troy took his bike down the hill faster than any other junior on the World Cup circuit and showed a majority of the Elite field how to get down a hill FAST! In doing so Troy managed to win the UCI Junior World Cup Championship in his first year racing overseas and followed up with another World Cup win in 2011!
With the London Olympic Games less than a year away Australian Chris Jongewaard has made an encouraging return to the world stage at the UCI World Mountain Bike Championships in Champery, Switzerland. After a tumultuous couple of years and despite an interrupted preparation heading in, Jongewaard's return to mountain biking at the world championship level was greatly anticipated.
The Australian Championships will be one of the last big races before cross country attention turns toward the 2012 Olympics.
There is something for everyone, so make the short trip up to Eagle Mountain Bike Park, just off the freeway and watch Troy Brosnan shoot it out with Connor Fearon and the other young guns. Event schedule and all details on www.eaglechamps.com.au

Give Fox some love - Sunday 16 October
Spring is here, and let me assure you, there's no better time to do a bit of new trail work. The days are lovely and warm, without being too hot, and the ground hasn't yet baked. In fact, where we'll be working this month has some of the most beautiful trail soil I've seen in a long time. Perfect for making whatever sorts of shapes appeal to you!
We'll be continuing our work on On the Munny, the singletrack that will eventually link the northern section from Side Effect to the Immaculate Compaction/Point of Knoll Return loop. Last month we got a significant amount of the bench cut in; with enough eager hands, we should be able to finish the cut, add technical trail features as necessary, groom the tread, and have first ride!
Meet at 8.50am at the Croft Rd carpark for a 9am start. SAMBA will provide all the tools, but we ask you to bring your gloves, boots, hats, and other PPC/E. We'll throw a few snags on the barbie at the end of the day, and go for a bit of a pedal.
Everyone's welcome to attend, not matter your level of experience!

Eagle Trailcare - 9 October
Greetings Trailcarers,
For those of you who are not going to the AMBC race at Windy Paddock on Sunday 9th of October, why don’t you come along to a SAMBA trailcare day at Eagle Mountain Bike Park.
We'll be starting at 9am at the Eagle on the Hill Gates.
There is still some discussion as to what we will be doing but it will either be the bottom half of Hills Hoist, where there is a massive erosion trench through some sandy material to fix, lots of overhanging shrubbery and plenty of grade reversals to clean out, or somewhere else further up the hill, yet to be confirmed.
We should finish at around 3 or 4pm.
Everyone's very welcome, no matter your level of experience.
If are going to come along please let us know so that we can cater for a BBQ lunch and drinks etc ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
Fox Creek got some love
The trail gods smiled on the 8 people who came out for yesterday's trail care session at Fox Creek. It was an absolutely stunning day and the soil was perfect for digging. We made some really good progress and the new section of trail is progressing beautifully, with about half of the benching done. With a little bit of luck and a good turnout we'll hopefully finish the track next time.
A very special thanks to our newest trail fairies Errol and Brandon, and special mentions to Messrs Bowman and Durst for coming out with their six and 0.75 month old children. Proof that trail care can be a fun activity for all the family.
Fox Creek Trail Love - 18 September
Come and join us for a fun morning playing in the beautiful dirt at Fox Creek on Sunday 18 September. We'll be finishing a brand new section of singletrack and will have the barbie cranked.
We'll be meeting at the Croft Rd carpark at 8:50am for a 9am start. If you're not sure where that is, just plug the following into google maps -34.887629,138.823573 (the green arrow shows the carpark). Don't worry if you're running late, we'll have contact details at the gate so we can find you.
Putting in a new trail is great fun. It's just like gardening on a grand scale (only way more fun)! Bring the family, bring your partner, bring your kids. It should be a fun day out for all. If you're able to come for some or all of the morning, we'd love to see you there. This is a great opportunity to come out, if you haven't been before, and find out with trail building is all about. Absolute beginners are very welcome. We'll follow this with a barbie lunch at around 1pm.
All you need to bring is sturdy footwear, gloves, drinking water and a bit of enthusiasm. We'll bring all the tools we'll need.
Let us know via the events page or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you're planning on coming and have any particular dietary requirements.
We hope to see you there.
SAMBA Community Award Winners
It was a glittering night at SA's mountain biking equivalent of the Oscars. A good crowd turned out at the Mercury Cinema to see who had won the first annual SAMBA Community Awards (as well as watch a couple of amazing movies: 3 Minute Gaps and Lifecycles).
The award winners were......
Melrose Wilmington Rail Trail Ride, Sat Oct 15th
On Saturday 15 October, our friends in the Southern Flinders Rough Riders and at Over the Edge will be holding a ride along the Melrose Wilmington Rail Trail. The trail is a new bike trail tracking the old railway line between Melrose and Wilmington and is approximately 20km. It is a safe trail with most of the ride being off road. The terrain is flat to undulating along the picturesque trail through the bush. There will be a treasure hunt (lollies, chocolate ,icy poles) along the way to keep the kids motivated. A support vehicle will follow the route to give you and your bike a lift if you need one.
Relax afterwards with a BBQ lunch in Paradise Square in down town Melrose and enjoy live music brought to you by our talented locals. All profits raised will go towards the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Put this date in your diary for the last weekend of the School holidays in October. For further information contact Southern Flinders Rough Riders at Over The Edge Sports on 08 8666 2222 or website www.otesports.com.au

Fox Creek Trail Session - 14 August 2011
On 14 August SAMBA will be holding a trail care/maintenance session at Fox Creek. We'll be working to finish a brand new piece of trail, On the Munny. At the same time our friends at the Adelaide Mountain Bike Club will be holding the second round of their XCO Series, also at Fox. This is a great chance for the mountain biking community to come together and combine some digging and racing.
People are welcome to come for some or all of the session; so you can dig around your racing or race around your digging!
Gates will be open for the race, so drive straight in and up to Munns Track (taking care of warm up riders). Muster at the SAMBA banner (at the end of Munns Track) at 8:50 for a 9am start.
We will bring the tools, all you need to remember to bring is some water, boots or other sturdy footwear and long trousers.
More info on the race can be found on AMTBC's website http://www.amtbc.com
Come out and dig some new trail, watch some great racing and even enter the race.
